“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. So do not be attracted by strange, new ideas. Your strength comes from God’s grace, not from rules about food, which don’t help those who follow them.”
“Do not be carried away by varied and strange teachings ;for it is good for the heart to be strengthened by grace, not by foods , through which those who were so occupied were not benefited.”
Our hearts are stirred and excited as we listen to stories of miracles and supernatural provision. We are congratulated for our performance in some sphere of life, and we feel encouraged. The job we have is stable and we have financial stability, so we feel secure. Church life is great, the community is thriving and there truly is a bond of peace; you feel confirmed and established and can’t thank the Lord enough for your circumstances. It’s all by His grace, right?
Yes, it is. And all of these things are wonderful blessings that we should never take for granted. Unfortunately, the problem arises when we rest our hope upon them. Our hearts are too easily satisfied in these temporal circumstances. Perhaps a nasty rumor begins to spread about you within the church body. Your company loses revenue and has to let you go. A dear friend who loves the Lord is sick, and although prayed over that they may receive healing, they continue to suffer and their health declines. Can you still thank the Lord for your circumstances? If your heart hopes and rests and is established in His grace, then yes. If it rests in your circumstances, then you will encounter a bit of difficulty.
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. For all time, Jesus has remained faithful and that will continue for all of eternity. “Every good thing given and every perfect gift comes from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.” (jms 1:17)
Never ever place your hope in anything but Jesus. He’s the only one who will never fail you. He’s the only one who will never change. May your heart be strengthened and encouraged by the grace demonstrated through the cross. You are loved infinitely and always by the God of the universe; let that be the only source of your inexpressible joy.
